Indianapolis - An Indianapolis man was sentenced to life imprisonment and 20 years in prison for a series of violent armed robberies in the Indianapolis area in November 2019.

In June 2021, 51-year-old Jerry Davis was convicted by a jury of robbing four companies between November 12, 2019 and November 20, 2019. Employees of two Speedway convenience stores, a Denny's restaurant and The Taste of Indiana were all injured through Davis. In these robberies, Davis attacked innocent employees with bear spray and a large metal pipe.

Davis has a long history of violent crime, including five convictions for robbery and/or attempted robbery in state courts. Due to his history of violent crime and past convictions for serious violent felonies, Davis was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 20 years in prison under the federal "three strikes law."

"Mr. Davis has been hurting citizens of this community with his violent actions for 25 years," said U.S. Attorney Zachary Myers. “Every time the defendant returns from prison to the community, he can change his approach. Instead, he chooses to carry out a series of violent attacks on innocent victims. The severe penalties imposed indicate that those who repeatedly commit violence will be held responsible for their actions.”

"Without the continued cooperation of the FBI and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, it would be impossible to identify Mr. Davis and end his reign of terror in the community," said Greg Greg, acting special agent of the FBI in Indianapolis. Rinalsen said. "It is through this partnership that we will continue to bring to justice those who believe that they are above the law and can carry out illegal activities without any consequences."

The case was investigated by the FBI Violent Crime Task Force and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Peter A. Blackett and Bradley P. Shepard prosecuted the case. It should be noted that there is no parole in the federal system.
