The Aug. 15 meeting of the Colfax Historical Society was called to order at 7 p.m. by President Kevin Williams and he thankedeveryone for attending. Members presentwere: BJ Williams, Shawn Cogley, Karen Russell, Cindy L. Van Dusseldorp, Stanley Daft, Aaron Bartholmey, Bill Hansen, Judy Sullivan, Peggy Dvorak, Don and Joyce Jessen, Doug Wilson, Larry Hurto, Rachel Wilty and Amanda Reese, facility manager. Minutes of the July 25 meeting were read. Treasurer’s report was presented with amounts given for July 2022.

We received a letter from August H. Luthens dated July 27. It was on a form from Paul D. Pate, Secretaryof State of Iowa “Statement of Resignation of Register Agent.”

A bill was received from Cook Plumbing Service in the amount of $450. They were able to locate the crack in the pipe.

Jasper Construction will do the culvert replacement and we still don’t know when this will happen.

Amanda presented her report to everyone. She also stated she was having problems with the phone we provided for her. So, it was decided she should notify the renters of her personal phone number 515-823-1847 and get it changed on the website, etc. Peggy will be helping her with this situation. Then, within a month, we hope to discontinue the use of the provided phone.

Kevin met with the new Colfax-Mingo Superintendent Timothy J. Salmon at 1 p.m. July 27 and gave him an hour or more tour of our museum and talked to him about the Joe Laws recognition. The superintendent already knows about Joe Laws history. He will be getting the school board’s input and get back to Kevin.

Shawn said the Pella and Trainland signs are grandfathered in and the IDOT no longer has this program. So, we will not be putting a sign up anywhere.

Kevin checked on the vandalism at Karlyne’s building and decided we don’t need to do anything at this time. Don did remove the front layer of the broken glass awhile back.

Doug did the grading of the ground in front of our building so it can be mowed.

The sewer problem is fixed.

Aaron made a list of the dates of the trophies and handed out that information. There was discussion. We will donate them to Cardinal Trophies and Awards in Newton. Joyce Jessen volunteered to deliver them to Cardinal Trophies.

The Nominating Committee volunteers are: Karen, Cindy L. and Judy. They are to report back at the September meeting. The election will take place at the October Annual Meeting Oct. 17.

Doug offered to fix the driveway expansion joint problems at a cost of $700.

Kevin presented a draft of the Meeting Room Users form and there was discussion. He will present the corrected form at our next meeting for approval.

Larry Hurto said that Lisa Van Gorp is tentatively scheduling a genealogical society event at the Colfax Library for at 6 p.m. Oct. 18. A genealogical society presenter will be present.

A big thank you to Kevin for finishing the LED light fixtures in the north cabinet, to Doug Wilson for grading the ground in front of our building, to Shawn, Aaron, Don and Joyce for all the extra things they do for us.

We will be open the second Saturday of the month, Sept. 10th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The volunteers will be Judy and Cindy L. from 10 a.m. to noon and from noon until 2 p.m. will be Larry H. and Peggy. Admission is free.

Next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 19. It is open to anyone who would like to attend.
